Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain confidential veteran medical records in compliance with federal regulations (HIPAA/VHA directives)
- Process electronic health record (EHR) data submissions and corrections during weekend coverage
- Coordinate with clinical teams for urgent record requests and weekend patient care documentation
- Perform quality audits on weekend medical documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Support weekend patient intake and registration processes at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System
- Train staff on medical records protocols during weekend handover periods
- Generate weekend activity reports for department leadership review
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of medical records experience in a healthcare setting
- Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) or RHIT/RHCS credentials preferred
- Proficiency in VA Vist EHR system and federal record-keeping standards
- Ability to work independently during weekend shifts with minimal supervision
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA compliance and VA medical record regulations
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- U.S. citizenship required for federal position
