Responsibilities
- Manage Pension Calculations: Accurately compute pension benefits, annuities, and survivor benefits based on federal guidelines and individual service records.
- Compliance & Regulation: Ensure all pension plan administration adheres to strict federal laws, OPM (Office of Personnel Management) regulations, and agency internal policies.
- Employee Counseling: Provide expert guidance to federal employees regarding eligibility for retirement, health benefits, and Thrift Savings Plans (TSP).
- Record Maintenance: Maintain precise digital and physical records of all pension transactions, claims, and payroll adjustments.
- Process Administration: Oversee the end-to-end processing of retirement applications, leave conversions, and final salary reconciliations.
- System Updates: Collaborate with IT teams to update HRIS systems with accurate pension data and resolve discrepancies.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, or a related field required.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in federal benefits administration, pension management, or payroll processing.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the FERS (Federal Employees Retirement System) and CSRS (Civil Service Retirement System) plans.
- Regulatory Expertise: Strong understanding of OPM retirement guidelines and the Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA).
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex pension concepts to non-technical staff.
- Tools: Proficiency with HRIS software (e.g., PeopleSoft, SAP) and Microsoft Office Suite.
