Responsibilities
- Maintain and audit electronic health records (EHR) systems in compliance with HIPAA and VA policies
- Implement health data privacy protocols and information security standards
- Train medical staff on proper documentation and coding procedures (ICD-10, CPT)
- Coordinate health information exchange with external providers and federal agencies
- Conduct quality assurance reviews for medical record completeness and accuracy
- Lead compliance audits for JCAHO and other regulatory requirements
- Develop departmental policies for health information lifecycle management
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field
- RHIA or RHIT certification required (or eligible within 6 months)
- Minimum 3 years' experience in healthcare data management
- Expert knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and VA health record systems
- Proficiency in EHR platforms (Epic, Cerner, or similar)
- Experience with federal compliance frameworks (FISMA, NIST)
- Strong analytical skills with attention to regulatory detail
- Active U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain VA security clearance
