As a Dispatcher Trainee, you will undergo rigorous on-the-job training and classroom instruction. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be certified and ready to manage emergency communications, ensuring the safety of our residents and officers.
Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls, gather critical information, and assess situations accurately.
- Dispatch Units: Coordinate the response of police, fire, and medical units to incidents using CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) systems.
- Communicate Effectively: Maintain clear, concise, and professional radio communications with field personnel and other agencies.
- Maintain Records: Accurately enter and update incident reports, warrants, and status information into the department’s database.
- Maintain Calm Under Pressure: Remain composed and focused during high-stress situations, providing clear instructions to callers and officers alike.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Clean Record: No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.
- License: Valid California Driver’s License is required.
- Typing Skills: Ability to type at least 35-40 words per minute with high accuracy.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly over radio systems.
- Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills and the ability to learn complex software systems quickly.
