In this role, you will support the maintenance of Fairmount Park and other city facilities, assist with community events, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. This is a fantastic opportunity to build a career in public service with a competitive benefits package.
Responsibilities
- Maintenance Operations: Perform routine landscaping, mowing, tree trimming, and cleaning of parks, trails, and athletic fields to ensure pristine conditions.
- Facility Care: Monitor and maintain restrooms, picnic areas, and playground equipment to ensure safety and cleanliness standards are met.
- Community Engagement: Assist in the planning and execution of public events, festivals, and recreational programs within the park system.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce park rules and regulations, identify potential hazards, and report maintenance needs to supervisors promptly.
- Equipment Management: Operate and maintain landscaping machinery, such as mowers, trimmers, and tractors, following all safety protocols.
- Seasonal Support: Assist with snow removal and ice control during winter months to ensure public safety and accessibility.
- Inventory Control: Help manage and replenish supplies, tools, and materials for park maintenance crews.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or public works is highly preferred.
- Physical Ability: Must be able to perform heavy physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- License: Valid Pennsylvania Class C Driverβs License (or ability to obtain) is required.
- Skills: Basic knowledge of gardening and landscaping tools; ability to read and follow safety instructions.
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to interact positively with park visitors and community members.
- Reliability: Must pass a background check and be available for a varied schedule, including weekends and holidays.
