We are seeking dedicated Part-Time Public Works Laborers to join the City of Stockton team. In this role, you will play a vital role in maintaining our city’s infrastructure, ensuring the safety and cleanliness of our streets, parks, and public facilities. As a Public Works Laborer, you will assist with various tasks ranging from routine maintenance to emergency response support. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in a stable government environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain Public Facilities: Assist in the cleaning, repair, and upkeep of streets, sidewalks, parks, and public buildings.
- Equipment Operation: Operate light to medium-duty equipment, such as street sweepers, rollers, and dump trucks, under supervision.
- Storm Water Maintenance: Perform maintenance on catch basins, storm drains, and related infrastructure to prevent flooding.
- Labor Support: Assist skilled tradespeople (electricians, plumbers, etc.) with various construction and maintenance projects.
- Vegetation Control: Trim trees, remove weeds, and manage landscaping to ensure community aesthetics.
- Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment safely.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Experience: Prior experience in construction, landscaping, or public works is a plus but not required; on-the-job training will be provided.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs), standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Driver's License: A valid California Class C driver’s license is required.
- Skills: Basic knowledge of tools and equipment, strong work ethic, and the ability to follow safety protocols.
