Responsibilities
- Administer defined benefit pension plans including benefit calculations, eligibility determinations, and retirement processing
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS regulations, Colorado Revised Statutes, and City ordinances
- Conduct pension audits, reconciliations, and financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and deliver retirement planning workshops and individual counseling sessions
- Collaborate with HR, payroll, and legal teams on pension-related matters and system integrations
- Manage pension fund investments, vendor contracts, and third-party administrator relationships
- Prepare comprehensive reports for the Pension Board, City Council, and auditors
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of pension plan administration experience with public sector plans preferred
- Deep knowledge of ERISA, IRS 401(a) regulations, and Colorado pension statutes
- Advanced proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., Millennium, Empower)
- Strong analytical skills with experience in financial modeling and benefit calculations
- Excellent communication abilities for explaining complex pension concepts to diverse audiences
- Professional designation (CEBS, ASPPA, or CPA) highly desirable
- Valid Colorado driver's license and ability to travel to off-site locations
