We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Physical Science Technician to support the critical mission of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in New Orleans, Louisiana. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in collecting, analyzing, and reporting meteorological data that impacts public safety and economic stability across the Gulf Coast region.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain automated weather stations and data collection systems to ensure accurate reporting.
- Analyze meteorological data to support the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasting operations and severe weather warnings.
- Assist in the installation, calibration, and repair of scientific instrumentation and telemetry equipment.
- Prepare technical reports and summaries of observational data for dissemination to stakeholders and the public.
- Collaborate with research scientists and engineers to refine weather prediction models and protocols.
- Maintain a high level of data integrity and adhere to strict federal security and safety protocols.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this federal position.
- A bachelor's degree in Physical Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated experience in collecting, analyzing, and reporting scientific data.
- Ability to perform duties in outdoor environments, including inclement weather conditions.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in computer applications and data management software.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a federal background investigation (Secret clearance) is required.
