Responsibilities

  • Receive, screen, and process incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls with speed and accuracy.
  • Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services to incident locations using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed logs of all calls, units dispatched, and incidents occurring within the city.
  • Monitor police radio frequencies and CCTV surveillance systems to provide real-time updates to field units.
  • Provide information and assistance to the public regarding city services, road closures, and non-emergency matters.
  • Collaborate with other emergency responders, including police officers and firefighters, to coordinate complex incidents.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the communications center.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or possess permanent residency status.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to type at least 35-40 words per minute with high accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to remain calm and clear under extreme pressure.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation, including a criminal history check and polygraph examination.
  • Ability to pass a medical examination, including a hearing and vision test.
