Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency (911) and non-emergency calls from the public with high accuracy and speed.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to the scene using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Provide critical information to field units, including location details, suspect descriptions, and situational updates.
- Enter and maintain accurate records of all calls, incidents, and officer activities in department databases.
- Monitor radio frequencies and maintain situational awareness to support ongoing operations.
- Assist in training and mentoring new dispatch personnel during the trainee phase.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; some college coursework in criminal justice or communications is preferred.
- Valid California Class C Driver's License with a good driving record.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely under pressure.
- Strong typing skills (minimum 35-40 WPM) with the ability to multi-task between phone lines and computer systems.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional during high-stress emergency situations.
- Must pass a thorough background investigation, polygraph, and medical examination.
