Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic communication plans for city initiatives including transportation projects, public safety programs, and economic development efforts
- Manage digital content across city platforms including social media, website updates, and email campaigns to reach diverse audiences
- Coordinate media relations, press conferences, and crisis communications with local and national outlets
- Conduct public outreach events and community engagement sessions to gather resident feedback on policy proposals
- Analyze public sentiment data and communication metrics to optimize messaging strategies
- Collaborate with department heads to translate complex policies into accessible public communications
- Manage departmental budgets for communication projects and vendor contracts
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Administration, Journalism, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in government, public sector, or non-profit communications
- Proven expertise in crisis communication and media relations protocols
- Advanced proficiency with digital analytics tools (Google Analytics, Sprout Social)
- Experience managing public outreach initiatives with diverse community stakeholders
- Valid California Driver's License with acceptable driving record
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends for community events
- Spanish bilingual proficiency strongly preferred
