Responsibilities
- Perform complex clinical and environmental laboratory testing using advanced analytical instrumentation
- Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment including PCR machines, mass spectrometers, and automated analyzers
- Document test results meticulously in state health information systems ensuring 100% compliance with regulatory standards
- Participate in emergency response testing protocols for public health threats and disease outbreaks
- Train junior technicians on SOPs and quality control procedures
- Collaborate with epidemiologists and public health officials for case investigations
- Conduct equipment calibration and troubleshooting to maintain laboratory accreditation standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or related field from an accredited institution
- Minimum 2 years of clinical or environmental laboratory experience
- Valid Texas Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification or equivalent
- Proficiency in operating automated laboratory analyzers and information management systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and CDC laboratory standards
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a weekend shift environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance protocols
- Valid Texas driver's license for occasional sample transport duties
