Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections of public works projects including roads, drainage systems, and utilities
- Verify compliance with engineering specifications, safety protocols, and local ordinances
- Prepare detailed inspection reports with photographic documentation and recommendations
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and city departments to resolve compliance issues
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, permits, and project documentation
- Provide technical guidance to construction crews and project stakeholders
- Participate in code enforcement proceedings and public hearings as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of construction inspection experience
- Virginia Inspector certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Proficiency with inspection software (e.g., Accela, Cityworks) and Microsoft Office
- Strong knowledge of local building codes, OSHA standards, and ADA requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid Virginia driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and traverse construction sites
- Associate degree in civil engineering, construction technology, or related field preferred
