Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site inspections of municipal construction projects including roads, drainage systems, and public utilities
- Verify compliance with engineering specifications, safety protocols, and local building codes
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate project documentation
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and city officials to resolve compliance issues
- Assist in developing inspection schedules and prioritizing project oversight
- Provide technical guidance during construction phases and pre-conference meetings
- Investigate citizen complaints related to construction activities and public infrastructure
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or related field preferred
- Minimum 3 years of construction inspection or project management experience
- Valid Virginia Driver's License with clean driving record
- ICBO certifications (ICC Plans Examiner/Inspector) strongly preferred
- Proficiency with construction inspection software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong knowledge of Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) and VDOT standards
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills and ability to interpret technical blueprints
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and traverse construction sites
