Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor including excavation, paving, and landscape maintenance
- Operate heavy machinery (backhoes, graders, dump trucks) with proper certifications
- Install and repair public infrastructure (sidewalks, storm drains, traffic signals)
- Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and city regulations
- Assist in emergency response during severe weather events
- Conduct routine inspections of public works sites
- Maintain accurate records of materials and work progress
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for project efficiency
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 1 year construction/public works experience preferred
- Valid Minnesota Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- OSHA 10-hour construction certification or ability to obtain within 30 days
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
- Basic knowledge of hand/power tools and heavy equipment operation
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and flexible schedule
