Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor tasks including street sweeping, snow removal, and park maintenance
- Operate light machinery (sweepers, mowers, snow blowers) with proper safety protocols
- Assist in construction projects involving sidewalks, curbs, and public facilities
- Respond to weather emergencies and natural disasters on a 24/7 rotation basis
- Conduct routine inspections of public infrastructure and report hazards
- Maintain cleanliness of public spaces and manage waste disposal systems
- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams for city-wide initiatives
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Massachusetts driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
- Basic knowledge of hand/power tools and construction equipment
- OSHA 10-hour certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days)
- Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must pass background check and drug screening
- Boston residency preferred at time of hire
