Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor including excavation, grading, and landscaping for municipal projects
- Operate light machinery (e.g., jackhammers, saws, compactors) with proper safety protocols
- Install/maintain traffic control systems and signage during construction zones
- Conduct routine inspections of public pathways, drainage systems, and sidewalks
- Assist in emergency response during severe weather or infrastructure failures
- Maintain equipment inventory and report maintenance needs promptly
- Adhere to OSHA standards and city safety regulations at all times
Qualifications
- Valid North Carolina driver's license with clean record
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED acceptable)
- Pass pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Basic knowledge of hand/power tools and construction equipment
- Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and emergencies
- Strong commitment to public service and community safety
- Ability to follow verbal/written instructions without supervision
