Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor for infrastructure projects including road repair, sewer maintenance, and park upkeep
- Operate heavy machinery (excavators, dump trucks) safely under supervision
- Assist skilled tradespersons with construction and demolition tasks
- Ensure job sites comply with OSHA and city safety regulations
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and basic preventive maintenance
- Document daily work activities and material usage
- Respond to emergency public works requests during inclement weather
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Illinois driver's license with clean record
- 1+ years construction or maintenance experience preferred
- OSHA 10-hour certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in extreme weather conditions
- Basic mechanical aptitude and tool operation skills
- Pass background check and pre-employment physical
- Strong commitment to public service and teamwork
