Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on maintenance and repairs of city streets, sidewalks, and drainage systems
- Operate heavy machinery including excavators, backhoes, and street sweepers
- Assist in construction projects including bridge repairs, road resurfacing, and utility installations
- Conduct daily safety inspections of work sites and equipment
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement infrastructure improvement plans
- Manage waste materials and ensure proper disposal following environmental regulations
- Respond to emergency weather-related infrastructure repairs during storms
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Minimum 2 years experience in construction or public works maintenance
- OSHA 10-hour construction certification preferred
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions
- Knowledge of NYC DOT and DEP regulations
- Strong teamwork skills with ability to communicate effectively in diverse environments
