Responsibilities
- Street Maintenance: Perform manual labor tasks including sweeping streets, cleaning catch basins, and removing debris from public rights-of-way.
- Pavement Repair: Assist in the repair of potholes, cracks, and pavement failures using asphalt patching materials and equipment.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate and maintain light to heavy equipment such as dump trucks, jackhammers, rollers, and snowplows.
- Snow Removal: During winter months, execute snow removal and ice control operations on designated streets and sidewalks to ensure public safety.
- Construction Support: Assist skilled tradespeople with infrastructure projects, including flagging traffic, setting up barriers, and loading/unloading materials.
- Site Cleanup: Maintain job sites by cleaning up spills, trash, and hazards to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED: Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Valid Driver’s License: A valid New York State driver’s license is required.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy physical labor, including lifting 50+ pounds repeatedly, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Basic Math Skills: Ability to perform simple arithmetic for measurements and material calculations.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
- Safety Conscious: Knowledge of basic safety protocols and the ability to follow OSHA guidelines.
- Reliability: Must pass a drug test and background check.
