Responsibilities
- Perform heavy manual labor including excavation, grading, and material handling
- Operate light equipment (bobcats, dump trucks, jackhammers) with proper safety protocols
- Install/maintain public infrastructure (sidewalks, drainage systems, traffic signs)
- Assist in emergency stormwater and flood response operations
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
- Adhere to OSHA safety standards and Mesa's environmental policies
- Document work progress and complete daily field reports
Qualifications
- Valid Arizona Driver's License with clean driving record
- Minimum 6 months construction/public works experience
- OSHA 10-hour construction certification (or obtain within 30 days)
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in extreme weather conditions
- Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment troubleshooting
- Pass pre-employment physical and drug screening
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends during emergencies
