What You'll Do
As a Public Works Laborer, you will play a vital role in keeping Buffalo clean and safe. Your duties will include a variety of tasks to support our daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and clean public streets, sidewalks, and alleys to ensure a safe environment for residents.
- Assist in snow removal and ice control operations during winter months.
- Collect and transport refuse, trash, and recyclables using heavy equipment and hand tools.
- Operate and maintain light equipment such as dump trucks, brooms, and loaders under supervision.
- Perform general maintenance on public property, including pothole repair and sign maintenance.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations while on-site.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and fellow team members to ensure project completion.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform physical labor in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license.
- Willingness to work overtime, rotating shifts, and weekends as needed.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and punctuality.
- High school diploma or GED preferred, but not mandatory for the right candidate.
