Responsibilities
- Maintenance Operations: Perform general maintenance and cleaning of streets, alleys, and public right-of-ways, including litter removal and graffiti abatement.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate heavy and light machinery, including street sweepers, dump trucks, backhoes, and jackhammers.
- Infrastructure Support: Assist in the repair and maintenance of roads, sidewalks, curbs, and storm drains.
- Seasonal Duties: Participate in snow and ice removal operations during inclement weather to ensure public safety.
- Traffic Control: Set up and monitor traffic control devices, including cones, barricades, and signs, to ensure the safety of workers and the public.
- Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment as directed.
- Waste Management: Assist in the collection and disposal of municipal waste and recycling materials.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience in public works, construction, landscaping, or general labor preferred.
- Driver's License: A valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License is required.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and working in various weather conditions.
- Skills: Basic knowledge of construction equipment and safety protocols.
- Communication: Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors effectively.
