The Role
In this role, you will assist in the maintenance and improvement of Portland’s streets, water systems, and public facilities. You will work outdoors and be exposed to various weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Perform general labor tasks including excavation, grading, and asphalt paving.
- Operate and maintain heavy machinery such as jackhammers, rollers, and dump trucks.
- Assist in the repair and maintenance of water mains, sewer lines, and public facilities.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols and OSHA regulations on job sites.
- Lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs frequently throughout the shift.
- Communicate effectively with crew leaders and other team members.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid Oregon Class C Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Physical ability to perform heavy manual labor including bending, stooping, and lifting.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions (heat, rain, cold).
- Previous experience in construction, landscaping, or municipal public works is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of basic hand and power tools is a plus.
- Commitment to safety and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
