Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain city-provided heavy machinery (excavators, graders, dump trucks) for infrastructure projects
- Perform manual labor including excavation, grading, paving, and debris removal under supervisor guidance
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and safety checks per OSHA standards
- Assist in traffic control setup and work zone safety protocols
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for efficient project completion
- Document work activities and maintain equipment maintenance logs
- Participate in emergency response operations during natural disasters
Qualifications
- Valid California Class C Driver's License (Class B preferred)
- OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days)
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds repeatedly and perform physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions
- Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment troubleshooting and minor repairs
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in heavy equipment operation a plus
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Experience with utility locators or underground infrastructure systems preferred
