Responsibilities
- Perform heavy manual labor including excavation, grading, and material handling for public infrastructure projects
- Operate light machinery (e.g., jackhammers, saws, compactors) and hand tools with precision
- Assist in road maintenance, drainage system installation, and park development initiatives
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and OSHA standards while maintaining clean work sites
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and report maintenance needs promptly
- Support emergency response efforts during severe weather events or public safety incidents
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with minimum 2 years construction/public works experience
- Valid North Carolina driver's license with clean driving record
- OSHA 10-hour construction certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days)
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds and work in extreme weather conditions
- Proficiency with hand/power tools and basic machinery operation
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to follow complex instructions
- Pass pre-employment physical and background check
- Preferred: CDL Class B or heavy equipment operation certification
