Your Role
As a Public Works Laborer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and aesthetics of our parish. Your work directly impacts the daily lives of Baton Rouge residents.
Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor tasks including cleaning streets, removing debris, and maintaining right-of-ways.
- Operate light to medium heavy equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, and mowers under supervision.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of drainage ditches, culverts, and flood control structures.
- Load and unload construction materials, tools, and supplies at various job sites.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
- Respond to emergency situations such as storm debris removal and flood response.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- A valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record is mandatory.
- Ability to perform physical labor including lifting 50+ lbs, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Must be willing to work in all weather conditions and various shifts.
- Willingness to undergo a background check and drug screening.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and a strong desire to learn are highly preferred.
