As a Public Works Laborer, you will be instrumental in maintaining the city's roads, drainage systems, and public facilities. You will work alongside skilled tradespeople and contribute to projects that directly impact the quality of life for thousands of residents.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy construction equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, and rollers safely and efficiently.
- Perform general maintenance, repair, and cleaning of streets, alleys, and public right-of-ways.
- Assist with snow removal, ice control, and sanding operations during winter weather events.
- Load, unload, and distribute construction materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, and dump trucks.
- Read and interpret basic blueprints, plans, and specifications to understand project requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in strict compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid Class C Driverβs License with a clean driving record required.
- Physical ability to perform heavy manual labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods.
- Basic knowledge of construction tools, safety procedures, and traffic control is preferred.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
