Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain heavy construction equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, and paving machines under supervision.
- Perform manual labor tasks including digging trenches, laying pipe, and grading roads and sidewalks.
- Load and unload construction materials, tools, and supplies from delivery trucks or storage areas.
- Ensure job sites are clean, organized, and free of safety hazards (e.g., debris, loose tools).
- Assist in traffic control, flagging, and setting up construction zones.
- Maintain accurate logs of work performed and materials used.
- Adhere to all OSHA safety regulations and departmental policies at all times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Valid Virginia Class C Driver's License is required.
- Previous experience in construction, landscaping, or public works is highly preferred.
- Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods, including lifting heavy objects and working in various weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of construction safety practices and equipment operation is a plus.
- Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
