The City of Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is seeking a reliable and hardworking Public Works Laborer to support our infrastructure maintenance and construction projects. What You Will Do:
- Assist in the construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and public facilities.
- Operate heavy machinery and equipment, including dump trucks, rollers, and skid steers, in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform manual labor tasks such as digging, loading, unloading, and cleaning work sites.
- Set up and maintain traffic control devices and flagging operations to ensure worker and public safety.
- Inspect work areas for hazards and report any unsafe conditions to supervisors immediately.
- Prepare and maintain daily logs, reports, and equipment maintenance records.

Responsibilities
- Operate heavy construction equipment including dump trucks, rollers, and excavators following all safety protocols.
- Perform manual labor duties such as digging, loading, unloading, and cleaning construction sites.
- Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic signs, signals, and pavement markings.
- Set up and monitor traffic control zones and flagging operations.
- Inspect work areas for potential safety hazards and report findings to supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with crew leads and fellow workers to coordinate daily tasks.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and proper tool storage.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Valid Washington State Class B Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Physical ability to perform strenuous labor, including lifting 50+ pounds repeatedly, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Previous experience in construction, landscaping, or public works maintenance is highly preferred.
- Basic knowledge of construction safety standards (OSHA) and traffic control procedures.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn new skills.
