As a Public Works Laborer, you'll perform vital hands-on tasks maintaining streets, parks, and public facilities. No two days are the same – you'll work outdoors, operate heavy equipment, and see the immediate impact of your work. Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor tasks including excavation, grading, and paving operations
- Operate heavy machinery (backhoes, dump trucks, street sweepers) with proper safety protocols
- Maintain public infrastructure including sidewalks, storm drains, and traffic signals
- Assist in emergency response during natural disasters or public safety incidents
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on city properties
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on infrastructure improvement projects
- Adhere to OSHA standards and city safety regulations at all times
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid California Class C driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in extreme weather conditions
- Experience with hand/power tools and heavy equipment operation preferred
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification a plus
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Basic knowledge of traffic control and work zone safety
- Must be a U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work
