Responsibilities
- Perform skilled maintenance and repair work on municipal infrastructure, including roads, sidewalks, curbs, and storm drains.
- Operate heavy equipment and machinery, including backhoes, dump trucks, rollers, and jackhammers, following all safety protocols.
- Maintain and inspect drainage systems to prevent flooding and ensure proper water flow during heavy rains.
- Apply asphalt and concrete for repairs and resurfacing projects, ensuring high-quality finishes and proper compaction.
- Respond to emergency service requests and maintain a 24-hour on-call rotation as required by department policy.
- Conduct site inspections to identify maintenance needs and coordinate with other city departments.
- Adhere to strict safety regulations and OSHA standards to maintain a safe work environment for yourself and your team.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an apprenticeship or vocational program in a related field is highly preferred.
- Valid California Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in public works, construction, or general maintenance.
- Technical knowledge of construction materials, asphalt, concrete, and drainage systems.
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor, including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), bending, and working in various weather conditions.
- Ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within a specified timeframe (if required by the position).
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
