Responsibilities
- Maintain municipal infrastructure including roads, drainage systems, and coastal erosion controls
- Operate heavy machinery (excavators, graders, dump trucks) with precision and safety protocols
- Respond to emergency weather events (hurricanes, nor'easters) for infrastructure recovery
- Perform preventative maintenance on city vehicles and equipment
- Collaborate with engineering teams on infrastructure improvement projects
- Document maintenance activities using digital reporting systems
- Adhere to OSHA and Virginia DEQ environmental standards
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years' experience in public works or heavy equipment operation
- Valid Virginia Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- OSHA 10-hour Construction certification within 6 months of hire
- Ability to obtain Virginia Water/Wastewater Operator certification within 2 years
- Physical ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in outdoor environments
- Pass pre-employment physical and background check
- Experience with GIS mapping systems preferred
