Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, repairs, and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and public facilities to ensure safety and accessibility.
- Machinery Operation: Operate and maintain heavy machinery and hand tools, including dump trucks, paving equipment, and jackhammers, following strict safety protocols.
- Drainage Management: Assist in the clearing of drainage canals and ditches during heavy rains to prevent flooding and protect property.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergency calls regarding downed trees, debris on roadways, or infrastructure failure.
- Inventory Control: Monitor and manage inventory of tools, materials, and equipment, reporting shortages or maintenance needs.
- Community Interaction: Interact professionally with the public and other city departments to coordinate maintenance schedules and projects.
- Compliance: Adhere to all OSHA safety standards and city ordinances regarding public works operations.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; technical certification or trade school background is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction, maintenance, or a related field.
- Licensure: Valid Louisiana Class C Driver's License required; Class B CDL preferred.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to perform heavy physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Skills: Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems, mechanical repair, and carpentry is highly desirable.
- Background: Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
