Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment (backhoes, graders, street sweepers) for infrastructure projects
- Perform preventative maintenance on public facilities and transportation systems
- Respond to emergency repairs (water leaks, storm damage) within 4-hour response windows
- Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with OSHA/CAL-OSHA standards
- Collaborate with engineering teams on infrastructure improvement projects
- Document work activities using digital reporting systems (GIS-integrated software)
- Mentor junior staff on proper equipment operation and safety protocols
Qualifications
- Valid California Class C driver's license (Class B preferred)
- 2+ years experience in public works or heavy equipment operation
- OSHA 10-hour construction safety certification
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in extreme weather conditions
- Basic plumbing/construction knowledge (backflow prevention, asphalt repair)
- Pass pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Spanish bilingual proficiency (strongly preferred)
- Experience with Cityworks or similar municipal asset management systems
