Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repair of roads, streets, and public sidewalks.
- Operate heavy machinery, including graders, rollers, and dump trucks, safely and efficiently.
- Clean, maintain, and inspect drainage ditches, storm sewers, and catch basins to prevent flooding.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests and citizen complaints with urgency and professionalism.
- Assist in snow and ice removal operations during winter weather events.
- Conduct routine inspections of public infrastructure to identify potential hazards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while adhering to all OSHA safety regulations.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License is mandatory.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in various weather conditions.
- Previous experience in public works, construction, landscaping, or heavy equipment operation is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maps, and safety plans.
- Strong commitment to public service and community safety standards.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required by city operations.
