Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repairs on city streets, sidewalks, and drainage systems
- Operate heavy machinery including graders, loaders, and street sweepers
- Respond to emergency infrastructure repairs during storms and special events
- Support park maintenance and landscaping projects across Oakland's neighborhoods
- Conduct routine inspections of public facilities and document findings
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on capital improvement projects
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and environmental regulations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Minimum 2 years of public works or heavy equipment operation experience
- Valid California Class C Driver's License (Class B preferred)
- Certification in OSHA safety training or equivalent
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and operate hand/power tools
- Pass background check and pre-employment physical
