Responsibilities
- Operate Heavy Machinery: Safely operate heavy refuse trucks and related equipment for garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection.
- Route Management: Adhere to assigned routes and schedules to ensure timely collection across all New Orleans neighborhoods.
- Street Sweeping: Perform manual and mechanical street sweeping duties to maintain clean roadways and drainage areas.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
- Customer Service: Interact professionally with the public, including homeowners and businesses, to address collection inquiries and concerns.
- Waste Management: Properly load, unload, and compact waste materials while adhering to environmental and safety regulations.
- Emergency Response: Assist in storm cleanup and emergency waste removal during inclement weather events.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Driver's License: Valid Class C Louisiana Driver's License required; Class B CDL preferred.
- Physical Fitness: Must be able to lift heavy loads (up to 50 lbs) and perform strenuous physical labor in various weather conditions.
- Experience: Prior experience in sanitation, landscaping, or construction is a plus but not mandatory.
- Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Reliability: Must be punctual, dependable, and able to work rotating shifts and holidays as required.
