Responsibilities
- Operate Heavy Machinery: Safely drive and operate heavy-duty refuse collection trucks and related equipment on assigned routes.
- Garbage & Recycling Collection: Collect, load, and transport residential and commercial refuse, trash, and recyclables according to established schedules.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on collection vehicles to ensure they remain in optimal working condition.
- Route Management: Navigate assigned routes efficiently to ensure timely service delivery across the city.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, traffic laws, and OSHA regulations while performing duties.
- Community Interaction: Interact professionally with the public and other city employees to maintain a positive community image.
Qualifications
- Valid Driver's License: A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is highly preferred; a standard Class C license may be considered.
- Driving Record: Clean driving record with no serious traffic violations.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs), standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience in sanitation, waste management, or general labor is a plus but not always required.
- Availability: Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
