Responsibilities
- Operate heavy refuse trucks and sanitation vehicles to collect residential and commercial waste along assigned routes.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment to ensure safety and mechanical functionality.
- Load and unload trash, recyclables, and yard waste onto collection trucks safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and city policies while operating municipal vehicles.
- Maintain a clean work area and report any maintenance issues or hazards to the supervisor immediately.
- Engage with the public professionally, providing excellent customer service and answering inquiries regarding collection schedules.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred; a Class C license may be considered for entry-level with training.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Physically capable of performing heavy labor in all weather conditions.
- Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license with a good driving record.
- Strong commitment to safety, punctuality, and teamwork.
