Responsibilities
- Operate commercial garbage trucks and collection vehicles safely and efficiently throughout assigned routes.
- Collect, load, and transport solid waste, recycling, and yard trimmings from residential and commercial properties.
- Ensure all collection zones are serviced completely and in a timely manner.
- Perform routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure mechanical safety.
- Interact professionally with the public, including customers at curbside and in residential neighborhoods.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the cab of the truck and the loading bay.
- Adhere to all City of San Antonio safety protocols and traffic laws.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred but not always required for entry-level (training provided).
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50+ lbs) and perform strenuous physical labor in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts, including early mornings, nights, and weekends.
- Basic mechanical aptitude is a plus.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
