Responsibilities
- Manage and preserve all official municipal records, ordinances, and council proceedings
- Oversee election administration and voter registration processes
- Coordinate public records requests and ensure compliance with open meeting laws
- Administer oaths and provide notary services for city officials
- Manage city clerk budget and supervise departmental staff
- Serve as clerk to the Oakland City Council and advisory bodies
- Implement digital records management systems for improved accessibility
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Political Science, or related field
- 5+ years municipal government experience with records management
- Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation preferred
- Expert knowledge of California election laws and Brown Act requirements
- Advanced proficiency in records management software (e.g., Laserfiche)
- Proven ability to manage complex projects with competing priorities
- Exceptional communication skills for public presentations and testimony
- Experience supervising diverse teams in unionized environments
