Join Wayne County's transformative team as a Senior Community Development Specialist. Drive impactful urban revitalization initiatives across Detroit neighborhoods, shaping equitable growth strategies while collaborating with public agencies and community stakeholders. This pivotal role requires strategic vision and hands-on implementation of federal/state-funded programs.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive neighborhood revitalization plans targeting under-resourced Detroit communities
- Manage federal/state grant applications (CDBG, HOME, etc.) totaling $5M+ annually
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement sessions with residents, businesses, and nonprofits
- Analyze demographic/economic data to inform equitable development policies
- Oversee infrastructure improvement projects (housing, parks, commercial corridors)
- Prepare compliance reports for HUD and Michigan State Housing Development Authority
- Lead cross-departmental initiatives with Planning, Public Health, and Economic Development teams
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field (Master's preferred)
- 5+ years experience in community development or municipal planning
- Expertise in federal grant compliance (CDBG, HOME, NSP)
- Proficiency in GIS mapping and demographic analysis tools
- Demonstrated success in stakeholder facilitation and conflict resolution
- Knowledge of Detroit's housing market and neighborhood dynamics
- Valid Michigan driver's license with clean record
- Experience with public procurement processes
