Responsibilities
- Conduct complex inspections of food establishments, childcare facilities, and public swimming pools
- Investigate environmental complaints related to air quality, water contamination, and hazardous waste
- Develop and implement public health emergency response protocols
- Analyze scientific data to recommend regulatory policy improvements
- Train and mentor junior environmental health specialists
- Collaborate with state agencies on environmental protection initiatives
- Prepare detailed technical reports and testify at public hearings
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, or related field
- 5+ years of regulatory compliance experience in environmental health
- Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) certification
- Advanced knowledge of California Food Code and Title 22 regulations
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting environmental data
- Excellent communication skills for public education and stakeholder engagement
- Valid California driver's license with clean record
- Experience with GIS mapping and environmental database systems
