Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of advanced GIS databases and web mapping applications using ArcGIS and Esri technologies.
- Collaborate with department heads and field staff to identify geospatial needs and translate them into technical solutions.
- Analyze complex spatial data sets to produce high-quality maps, charts, and reports for executive decision-making.
- Develop and maintain custom Python and SQL scripts to automate data workflows and increase operational efficiency.
- Ensure data accuracy, quality control, and compliance with federal, state, and county data standards.
- Provide technical training and mentorship to junior GIS staff and other county departments.
- Conduct spatial analysis for environmental, transportation, and infrastructure projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in GIS analysis, database management, or software development within the public sector.
- Expert proficiency in Esri ArcGIS suite (Desktop, Server, and Online), including Python scripting and ModelBuilder.
- Strong experience with SQL databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and web technologies (JavaScript, HTML/CSS, REST APIs).
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Valid California Class C Driver’s License and willingness to travel to various county sites.
