Role Overview:
As a Senior GIS Analyst, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of geographic information systems (GIS) projects, from data acquisition and modeling to visualization and distribution. You will serve as a subject matter expert, mentoring junior analysts and ensuring the integrity of our spatial datasets.
Responsibilities
- Lead Spatial Data Management: Oversee the maintenance, integration, and quality assurance of the county’s centralized GIS database, ensuring data accuracy and accessibility for all departments.
- Develop Interactive Applications: Design and deploy responsive web maps and mobile applications using ArcGIS Online and custom web development frameworks to visualize critical infrastructure and demographic trends.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner with urban planners, public health officials, and emergency responders to translate complex requirements into spatial solutions.
- Advanced Data Analysis: Perform complex geospatial analyses, including spatial statistics and network analysis, to support policy decisions and disaster response planning.
- Training & Mentorship: Conduct workshops and training sessions for county staff to enhance GIS literacy and promote best practices across the organization.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all GIS projects adhere to federal, state, and local data privacy regulations and industry standards.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in GIS analysis, preferably within a government or municipal setting.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced expertise in Esri ArcGIS Suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online), SQL, and Python scripting.
- Web Development: Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS, or experience with web mapping libraries such as Leaflet or D3.js.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and the general public.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical thinking and the ability to troubleshoot complex spatial data issues efficiently.
