Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer the county's state pension plans, ensuring accurate record-keeping and strict compliance with California Government Code and state regulations.
  • Conduct periodic actuarial valuations and prepare detailed reports for the State Controller’s Office and the Board of Supervisors.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to current and retired employees regarding pension eligibility, benefits calculations, and claims resolution.
  • Investigate discrepancies in pension data, resolve complex member inquiries, and ensure high levels of member satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the HR and IT departments to update and maintain the pension management information system (PMIS) and related databases.
  • Ensure all pension-related documentation, filings, and communications meet federal and state legal standards.
  • Assist in the development of retirement plan communications and educational materials for staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public sector pension administration, employee benefits, or actuarial services.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, macros) and pension administration software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-experts.
