In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the stability and security of our city-wide network, ensuring that essential services remain operational for Oakland residents. Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the city's server infrastructure, ensuring 99.9% uptime for critical government services.
- Implement and manage advanced network security protocols and firewalls to protect sensitive citizen data and infrastructure.
- Collaborate with department heads to design, deploy, and manage scalable IT solutions for various municipal departments.
- Perform system upgrades, patch management, and conduct regular disaster recovery planning and testing.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior IT staff members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot complex technical issues with minimal downtime.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Systems Administrator role within a government, military, or large enterprise environment.
- Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or CISSP are highly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, virtualization technologies (VMware/Hyper-V), and Active Directory.
- Proven experience in network security best practices, identity management, and disaster recovery.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
