Responsibilities
- Manage Pension Calculations: Accurately calculate pension benefits and survivor benefits for active and retired employees using state actuarial formulas.
- Member Inquiries: Provide exceptional customer service by responding to inquiries regarding eligibility, vesting, and withdrawal options.
- Compliance & Auditing: Ensure all pension plan data is compliant with state and federal regulations, participating in regular internal and external audits.
- Data Management: Maintain and update employee pension records in the state’s central database with 100% accuracy.
- Process Administration: Process retirement applications and related paperwork efficiently to ensure timely disbursements.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public sector payroll, benefits administration, or actuarial science.
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions) and experience with HRIS systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Workday).
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) regulations and state government labor laws.
- Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to handle sensitive financial information with absolute confidentiality.
