Responsibilities
- Perform heavy manual labor including excavation, grading, and material handling for public infrastructure projects
- Operate and maintain heavy machinery (backhoes, loaders, dump trucks) with proper safety protocols
- Install and repair roads, sidewalks, drainage systems, and public facilities
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of city properties and utilities
- Adhere to environmental regulations and waste management procedures
- Collaborate with engineering teams to execute project specifications accurately
- Respond to emergency maintenance calls during extreme weather conditions
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with 2+ years construction/maintenance experience
- Valid Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- OSHA 10-hour construction certification preferred
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks in extreme temperatures
- Knowledge of municipal infrastructure systems and safety standards
- Pass pre-employment background check and substance screening
- Willingness to work flexible schedules including nights/weekends during emergencies
